To log in to Threads, go to threads.com on the web, or open the Threads app, and sign in with your Instagram account. In many regions you can also sign in with a Facebook account, or with the email or phone number you used to create a standalone Threads profile. Threads.net now redirects to threads.com.

Ways to log in to Threads

Log in on the web (threads.com)

1. Go to threads.com/login
2. Choose Continue with Instagram, or enter your username, phone number or email and password
3. Complete two-factor authentication if Instagram asks for it

If threads.com says to set up your profile in the Threads app, the profile doesn't exist yet. Create it in the mobile app first, then log in on the web.

Log in in the app (iPhone and Android)

1. Install Threads from the App Store or Google Play (published by Instagram)
2. Open it. If you're already logged in to Instagram on the same phone, Threads shows that account. Tap it to continue
3. To use a different account, tap Switch accounts, or choose Use email or phone if you made a standalone profile

"Incorrect password" or the Instagram login fails

Threads uses your Instagram password, not a separate one. Log in to the Instagram app or instagram.com first. If that fails too, reset the password from Instagram. Threads will accept the new one right away.

Stuck on the two-factor authentication code

The code comes from Instagram's two-factor settings: SMS, an authenticator app or WhatsApp. If you no longer have that phone, use one of the backup codes Instagram gave you when you turned 2FA on. Otherwise use Instagram's "Try another way" recovery flow.

"Set up your profile using the Threads app"

You're trying to log in on the web with an account that has no Threads profile. Open the mobile app once, create the profile, and the web login will work.

The app keeps logging you out or loops back to the login screen

• Update both Threads and Instagram. They share a login session on the same phone
• Log out of Instagram and back in, then reopen Threads
• On Android, clear the Threads app cache. On iPhone, delete and reinstall the app (your profile is stored on Meta's servers, so nothing is lost)

"Your account has been suspended" or disabled

A Threads suspension usually follows an Instagram action on the same account. Check your Instagram app for a notice. The appeal goes through Instagram's review flow.

Threads won't load at all after you log in

Can you log in to Threads without Instagram?

Yes, in a growing number of regions. Since 2025, Meta has been rolling out standalone Threads profiles that sign up with an email address or phone number, and testing Facebook sign-up. On the sign-up screen, choose Use email or phone instead of logging in with Instagram. If you don't see the option, it hasn't reached your region yet.

A standalone profile can't follow Instagram accounts or cross-post to Instagram unless you link an Instagram account later.

Can you view Threads without logging in?
